Molenmuseum (Mill Museum), Zaandam

The Mill Museum offers a deep dive into the windmills and milling history of the Zaanstreek region. Managed by Vereniging De Zaansche Molen, it’s situated on the famous Zaanse Schans. While the museum doesn’t cover the daily operations of the mills in detail, you can get a fuller picture by visiting the working mills still managed by the association.

The museum's collection features unique exhibits not typically found at the mills themselves, including a model hall, displays on consumer goods produced by the mills, insights into local customs and dialect, and a section dedicated to the region's history and its mills. One highlight is the Mill Panorama, a large painting by Frans Mars originally housed in the oil mill Het Pink. This artwork provides a glimpse into what the Zaanstreek might have looked like during the peak of its milling era in the 17th and 18th centuries.
