Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cartagena, Cartagena

The Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cartagena is a revered institution dedicated to the preservation, study, and exhibition of archaeological artifacts related to the rich history of the municipality of Cartagena. This museum is an integral part of the Regional Network of Museums of Murcia and has a deep-rooted history that dates back to its establishment on October 25, 1943, under the first director, Antonio Beltrán Martínez.

The foundation of the Municipal Archaeological Museum can be traced to various archaeological collections, most notably the invaluable legacy of Roman epigraphs. Cartagena has been a custodian of these artifacts since the late 16th century, and they laid the foundation for the museum's collection.

Given Cartagena's strong connection to Roman history and its profound Romanization, the museum's most extensive and well-presented collections predominantly hail from this period.
