The House of Fortune is a captivating journey back in time to the domestic life of Roman Cartagena during the 1st century AD. Within the House of Fortune, you can explore several rooms that played distinct roles within the home. Visitors enter from the street through a narrow entrance corridor that leads into the atrium, the central hall of the house. First room on the left side is identified as the tablinum, the main reception room where the head of the household would meet guests and conduct social or business conversations.

The next room on the same side is what archaeologists interpret as the triclinium, the dining room. In Roman homes this was where banquets were held, with guests reclining on couches arranged around a central table.Several smaller rooms located on the right are interpreted as cubicula, or bedrooms. These were more private areas of the house, used for sleeping and personal activities.
