Musée du Prieuré du Vieux Logis, Nice

Musée du Prieuré du Vieux Logis, Nice

Prieure du Vieux-Logis Museum in Nice is a charming museum that showcases French art objects and furniture from the 14th to the 16th century. This museum was inaugurated in its current form in June 1939 and is located on Avenue de Saint-Barthélemy on the hill of Saint-Barthélémy in the Saint-Sylvestre district.

Originally, the building was a mill that underwent several expansions until it finally stopped working in the 19th century. It was then transformed into a farm and was purchased by the Dominican Reverend Father Alfred Lemerre, who converted it into a priory and made various changes, including adding a porch and repainting the façade in red ocher. It was during this time that the building received the name Vieux Logis (Old House).

In 1922, the Reverend Father moved into the priory and set up a typical 15th-century interior to showcase his collection of works of art and medieval furniture. The museum is made up of thirteen rooms, with the ground floor containing a Gothic room, a bedroom furnished in the Renaissance style, and a kitchen with furniture and utensils from different periods. Upstairs, visitors can explore the chapel, the oratory, the sacristy, and another bedroom.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the museum is that it displays both works of art and everyday objects. Visitors can learn about how people lived during the medieval period and gain insight into the daily lives of the French people.

Open only by appointment with the Masséna Museum; Closed: Tuesday all day.
