Museum of Prehistory and Culture, Valencia
The archaeological materials exhibition at the Prehistory Museum of Valencia showcases a wide range of artifacts spanning from the Paleolithic era to the Visigothic period. Since 1982, it has been housed in The Old House of Charity, a building constructed in 1841 that features a remarkable Byzantine-style church built in 1881. Among the museum's notable pieces is the renowned Font de Mussa Mosaic.
In 1995, architect Rafael Rivera restored the building, formerly called the House of Charity. It now functions as the Museum of Prehistory, with a ground floor and two stories surrounding five courtyards. The ground floor includes a shop, cafeteria, exhibition rooms, workshops, warehouses, and laboratories. The building also houses the Prehistoric Research Service offices and the transformed church, now known as the Hall. The first floor offers a Library and Permanent Facilities for the Paleolithic, Neolithic, and Bronze Age. The second floor showcases permanent galleries on Iberian culture and the Roman World.
The museum displays galleries dedicated to different historical periods, including the Paleolithic with Bolomor Cave fossils and Parpalló Cave engravings, the Neolithic with Cardium pottery from l'Or de Beniarrés Cave, and the Metal Ages. The museum has Iberian artifacts like Sant Miquel de Llíria's painted vessels, the Warrior of Moixent, and Iberian lead books. It also has Roman objects like the Font de Mussa mosaic and Apollo de Pinedo.
The Prehistory Museum of Valencia also features dedicated rooms displaying the history of money and its artifacts. They showcase ancient coin production methods and rescued numismatic treasures, providing a captivating exploration.

The city was destroyed in 75 BC by Pompey the Great, but was rebuilt within a century, later becoming home to Visigoths and then the Moors, who transformed... view more

Contemporary Architecture Walk
With one foot in the past and the other planted firmly in the future, Valencia manages a balancing act few European cities can pull off. Old Town Walking Tour
Valencia’s Old Town is the sort of place where the Romans, Moors, medieval merchants, Gothic builders, Baroque decorators, and modern shoppers all seem to have comfortably found their place (albeit at different times). Beneath today’s squares, Roman streets and forum remains sit quietly underground, while above them, the city’s Islamic-era street plan still winds and twists, refusing to... view more
