Neir's Tavern, New York
Neir's Tavern has been part of New York’s social fabric since 1829, making it the city’s oldest tavern and one of the oldest continuously operating taverns in the United States. Located in Queens, it has survived generations of change while preserving the atmosphere of a classic neighborhood gathering place. Over the decades, the tavern has welcomed locals, travelers, and performers, building a reputation that stretches well beyond its modest exterior.
Its long history is reflected in details that remain intact today, including a mahogany bar more than 150 years old and an original draught beer system that recalls an earlier era of American taverns. The space has also earned a place in popular culture, appearing in films such as Goodfellas and Tower Heist, while a young Mae West once performed here early in her career.
