Neoria Vechi (Old Shipyard), Heraklion
Еhe Old Shipyard (Neoria Vechi ) is a fascinating archaeological site that echoes the maritime history of the city. The term "Neoria" hails from ancient Greek and translates to dockyard or arsenal. As you walk through the domed archway tunnel, you step into the remnants of a complex that once housed and serviced Venetian galleys. The shipyard consisted of three complexes, namely Ancient Arsenal, Old Arsenal, and New Arsenal, encompassing a total of 19 shipyards constructed in different periods.
