Parc de la Maison Blanche, Marseille

Parc de la Maison Blanche, Marseille

Welcome to the quaint White House Park (Parc de la Maison Blanche), nestled in the delightful Cabot district. This park boasts a captivating old residence, now serving as the Town Hall for the 9th and 10th arrondissements of Marseille. Spanning across 5 hectares, the Maison Blanche Park offers an enchanting setting with its serene lake, lush lawns, and idyllic wooded areas.

In 1840, Cohen built the White House Park and bastide. Later, a Swiss family added a scenic lake and grand bays. In 1978, the City acquired the estate, converting the bastide into the Town Hall for the 9th and 10th arrondissements, while preserving the park's leisurely essence.

In this picturesque park, you'll find remarkable trees dating back to the early 19th century, including magnolias, redwoods, cedars, yews, and more. Over the years, various deciduous trees like gingko biloba, chestnut, maple, and others have been added. Recently, hazelnut, hackberry, paulownia, and banana trees also thrive here.

For families with children, there is a generously sized playground equipped with benches for parents to relax and supervise. When the weather is pleasant, visitors can also enjoy a refreshing beverage from the on-site bar, complete with shaded tables for a delightful respite.

Moreover, the park hosts the annual Ephemeral Arts Festival between late May and early June. The event celebrates contemporary art and is organized with prestigious partners like the Association Arts Médiation Evénements Organisation, Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Marseille, Museum of Contemporary Arts of Marseille, and more.

Its name likely derives from an old inn called “The Inn of the Basket,” which existed in the 17th century, though the district itself traces its origins back more than 2,600 years.
