Dating back to the latter part of the 18th century, Château Borély stands as a symbol of the grand mansions constructed by prominent families in Marseilles. Frequented during the warm seasons and weekends, this estate has been admired since its inception as one of the most exquisite country residences. Remarkably, it has managed to preserve much of its original decor, including a gilded living room, library, bedroom, and chapel.

The Museum of the Decorative Arts, Ceramics and Fashion (Musée des Arts Décoratifs, de la Faïence et de la Mode) located within Château Borély presents an exceptional collection of 2,500 artworks spanning from the 18th century to the contemporary era. Among the exquisite exhibits are furniture, ceramics, glassware, tapestries, artworks, rare exotic items, design, and fashion collections. A significant portion of these treasures belonged to the affluent Borely family and have always adorned the château.

The museum's staff is renowned for their warmth and friendliness, with a particular eagerness to engage in English conversations. So, don't hesitate to pay them a visit!

Its name likely derives from an old inn called “The Inn of the Basket,” which existed in the 17th century, though the district itself traces its origins back more than 2,600 years.
