Parliament Buildings, Sarajevo

Parliament Buildings, Sarajevo

After the end of WWII, the National Assembly of the People’s Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was located inside the building of the National Bank. In order to satisfy all the requirements of this institution, a new building was constructed in 1952. Nevertheless, even this new building was not adequate for the increased needs of the Assembly. Thus, in 1954 the decision to built a new assembly building in the city center was made. The competition for the best design was won by the architect Juraja Neidhardt and the preparation for the construction began in 1954. Unfortunately, the works didn't begin until 28 years later due to economic problems.

Finished in 1982, the modern building became the seat of the Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. What is interesting about this building is that its design differs from its original. It is one floor higher and the facade is different.

Today, the buildings of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina are the most representative and impressive structures in the country.
