Paseo Arts District, Oklahoma City
The Paseo Arts District is a charming enclave, nicknamed the “Spanish Village”, that has flourished since its inception in 1929 as the city’s first commercial shopping district. With its pastel stucco buildings, clay-tile roofs, and narrow, curved two-block street, Paseo is now a haven for more than 80 working artists and about 20 galleries. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and once honored as one of American Planning Association’s “10 Great Neighborhoods for 2010,” the district evokes both history and contemporary creativity.
Paseo’s energy peaks each month during the First Friday Gallery Walk, running from 6 to 9 pm, when galleries stay open late, local artists host receptions, and live music drifts through the open-air atmosphere. Beyond the galleries, the district invites exploration of its unique assortment of boutiques, bars, and eateries-with eclectic stops like Paseo Grill, Flamingo Tiki, Picasso Café, Holey Rollers vegan donut shop, and Gorō Ramen.
Every Memorial Day weekend, the Paseo Arts Festival transforms the neighborhood into a lively outdoor arts bash, drawing thousands to admire juried works from over 90 artists, engage with performers, and sample local food and drink.
