Red Sea Aquarium is a small marine-life attraction connected with Egypt’s early scientific study of the Red Sea. Its history is linked to the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, which was established in 1930, and to Dr. Hamed Gohar, a pioneering marine biologist often remembered in Egypt for bringing sea science to the public. For many years, he presented the television programme The Sea World, helping generations learn about marine species and coastal environments.

The site is more modest than modern aquarium parks, but it has historical value. Visitors can see displays of Red Sea fish and preserved marine specimens, including older taxidermy exhibits that reflect early 20th-century research methods. Some museum sections are associated with samples collected during historic scientific expeditions, including work linked to the Egyptian research ship Mabahith, which studied the Red Sea and Indian Ocean regions.

The complex is also connected with Dr. Gohar’s working life. His former villa and research spaces are part of the wider property, giving the place the character of both an aquarium and a scientific heritage site. His studies of dugongs, rare marine mammals sometimes called sea cows, were especially important for understanding and protecting these animals along the Red Sea coast.

For tourists, Red Sea Aquarium is best seen as a short, educational stop rather than a large entertainment attraction. It offers a look at marine life, scientific history, and older local heritage in one place. Because it is less promoted than bigger resort attractions, many independent visitors reach it by taxi or ride-hailing app, and entry is usually much cheaper than larger aquarium-style venues.
