Sagrada Familia (Holly Family), Montevideo
The Holly Family College and High School (Colegio y Liceo Sagrada Familia) in Montevideo is a pivotal institution in the realm of Catholic education in the country. Officially opening its doors on July 1, 1889, the school was founded by four Brothers of the Holy Family who arrived from France, an initiative driven by Father Nicolás Luquese.
Initially established in the residence of General Lorenzo Batlle at Yaguarón and Lima streets with just seven students, the school quickly expanded its student body to 88 by the end of its inaugural year. Originally a boys-only school, it has since transformed, adapting to the educational and societal changes of the times.
Today, Holly Family College and Lyceum enrolls 1,251 students ranging from the initial educational level up to high school, covering all academic orientations. It offers an optional full-time educational scheme beginning from age three up through the basic cycle, emphasizing a holistic development approach that integrates academic, pastoral, artistic, and recreational aspects. This framework aims not only at academic excellence but also at fostering good societal members and spiritually enriched individuals.
Rooted in tradition yet dynamic in its approach to innovation and modern challenges, the Holly Family College and High School continues to uphold its commitment to providing quality education that aligns with the evolving educational landscape and the needs of the community it serves.
