Salisbury United Reformed Church, Salisbury

Salisbury United Reformed Church has a history stretching back to 1662, when the congregation was formed following the Great Ejection under the leadership of Reverend John Strickland. The congregation worshipped on Endless Street before moving to the present church in 1879. Built at a cost of £11,000, it was designed to accommodate around 600–650 worshippers and reflects the growth of the local Nonconformist community during the 19th century.

The church is an example of Early Decorated Gothic Revival architecture. Its steeply pitched roof, tall spire, and pointed entrance arch distinguish it from many other Nonconformist chapels of the period. It also formed part of a wider complex with a Sunday School, lecture halls, and classrooms.

A major redevelopment in 1978 adapted the church for modern needs. The sanctuary was moved upstairs, a tower lift was added, and the ground floor became community space. Today, the church continues to host regular services alongside concerts, exhibitions, meetings, and local events, welcoming both worshippers and visitors interested in its history and architecture.
