SAP Center, San Jose

The SAP Center in San Jose is a major indoor arena that’s been a central hub for sports and entertainment since it first opened under the name San Jose Arena. It’s best known as the home of the San Jose Sharks, the city’s National Hockey League team, earning the venue the fearsome nickname “The Shark Tank.” It also hosts the San Jose Barracuda, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Sharks.

Beyond hockey, the SAP Center has made a name for itself in the broader world of entertainment. In 2006, it led all venues in the Western United States in ticket sales for non-sporting events-selling an impressive 633,435 tickets. That performance also placed it fourth in the world, trailing only New York’s Madison Square Garden, Manchester’s Manchester Arena, and Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena.

The arena has become a familiar site for WWE fans, hosting several high-profile WWE Pay-Per-View events over the years. Notable events include Royal Rumble 1998, Payback 2017-headlined by Braun Strowman defeating Roman Reigns-and TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs (2018). The arena was also considered for Extreme Rules 2021, though the event was ultimately not held there.

With its mix of sports action, sold-out concerts, and wrestling showdowns, the SAP Center continues to be a cornerstone of San Jose’s cultural and entertainment scene.
