Schlafly Tap Room, Saint Louis

Schlafly Tap Room is the original brewpub of Schlafly Beer (The Saint Louis Brewery), an independent craft brewery founded by Tom Schlafly, Dan Kopman, and Charles Kopman. Opening on December 26, 1991, it became the first new brewpub to open in both St. Louis and the state of Missouri since Prohibition.

The Tap Room played an important role in changing local brewing laws and helped launch the region's modern craft beer movement. Today, it remains a popular destination for visitors interested in local brewing history and fresh craft beer. Housed in a restored 1902 industrial brick building that originally served the Lambert-Deacon-Hull Printing Company and was later occupied by the John S. Swift printing press, the Tap Room combines a working brewery with a full-service restaurant. The interior retains exposed brick walls, heavy wooden beams, and other historic industrial features. A rotating selection of year-round, seasonal, and limited-release beers is brewed on site, including pale ales, stouts, lagers, and wheat beers. Guided brewery tours explain each stage of the brewing process, while tasting flights allow visitors to compare different styles.

The restaurant serves a menu of American dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, including burgers, sandwiches, salads, flatbreads, schnitzel, and its well-known fish and fries, all selected to pair with the brewery's beers. Beyond dining, Schlafly Tap Room hosts live music, beer releases, festivals, trivia nights, and community events throughout the year. Its combination of brewing tradition, historic architecture, and a lively atmosphere offers visitors an enjoyable introduction to the region's craft beer culture.
