Sculpture Park, Santiago

The Sculpture Park Museum (Museo Parque de las Esculturas) is an enchanting open-air museum nestled in Providencia. This picturesque park proudly showcases an impressive array of sculptures crafted by both Chilean talents and esteemed international artists.

The museum's inception traces back to a significant event in 1982 when Santiago faced one of its most massive floods, causing extensive damage across the city. The very area where the Sculpture Park Museum stands today, between Avenida Santa Maria and the Rio Mapocho, endured the force of nature, obliterating what had once been a serene garden and park.

Transforming adversity into an opportunity for artistic expression, a collective of local artists embarked on an inspiring initiative to create the sculpture park. Their vision aimed to not only beautify the ravaged gardens but also to foster artistic creativity within the city. With the architectural brilliance of German Bannen, the park came to life, gracefully inaugurated in 1986.

Marta Colvin's magnificent sculpture "Pachamama" was the park's first captivating addition. Over the years, the collection has flourished, boasting approximately 40 permanent sculptures. The park showcases an assortment of remarkable works crafted by revered Chilean artists, many of which have earned esteemed international accolades.

The park's meticulously maintained landscape enhances its allure, offering a splendid mix of trees and flowers from various corners of the world, reminiscent of a mesmerizing botanical garden. On clear days, the breathtaking peaks of the Andes Mountains grace the horizon, adding to the park's allure.
