Shaanxi Library, located in the Beilin district about 6 kilometers north of the city center, is a notable landmark. Recognized as the first public library in the western region of the country, it draws a diverse range of visitors. The library's modern design features an impressive semi-circular entrance, making it a popular spot for locals, particularly students. As one of the largest libraries in Xian, it serves as a crucial educational resource.

In 2009, Shaanxi Provincial Library introduced cutting-edge technology to improve access to its extensive book collection. The library includes not only a general area for adult readers but also a dedicated children's section, spanning roughly 800 square meters.

The Shaanxi Provincial Library stands as a significant repository and coordinating center for book collections and related activities in Shaanxi Province. Its resources extend beyond traditional print materials like books, ancient texts, newspapers, and journals, encompassing electronic books, audio materials, microforms, and various other documents. It also functions as the Shaanxi division of the National Cultural Information Resources Sharing Project.

As of the end of 2020, the library's total holdings amount to 5,512,118 items. This includes 4,390,410 books, 328,352 ancient texts, 641,221 newspapers and journals, 71,740 audio materials, 308 microforms, and 80,087 other volumes or items. Additionally, the library boasts a collection of 3,601,758 electronic books.
