The Richard Wagner opera “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg,” especially popular in the 1930s, was dedicated to the famous German folk signer, Hans Sachs, who settled in Nuremberg after long travels throughout Germany. The statue survived the bombing of Nuremberg in 1945, though the buildings around it were destroyed.
