Originally constructed as a cinema in the late 1890s, the Poliorama Theatre holds a fascinating place in history, even immortalized in George Orwell's "Homage to Catalonia" for its involvement in a dramatic shoot-out during the Spanish Civil War. However, the theater's present-day offerings take a contrasting tone, as it predominantly showcases lighthearted comedies, musical plays in Spanish or Catalan, as well as captivating flamenco and opera performances. Situated along the vibrant La Rambla, the upper floors of the theater are occupied by the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts.
