Tello o Huaca Panteón Chino, Lima

Tello o Huaca Panteón Chino, Lima

Named in honor of Julio Cesar Tello, often regarded as the "father of Peruvian archaeology," the Tello or Huaca Panteón Chino site was established in 1972 and underwent a comprehensive renovation in 1998. The archaeological park is enclosed by a substantial fence to deter unauthorized access. The architectural remnants within the park date back to the period between 1100 and 1460 AD, evoking a profound sense of antiquity that captivates visitors. As one observes these ancient platforms, the palpable connection to the past becomes an unforgettable experience.

The Julio Cesar Tello huaca, also known as Huaca Panteón Chino, stands as an archaeological monument. It was once part of the pre-Hispanic urban complex associated with the Maranga curacazgo, which encompassed various other sites, including Mateo Salado, San Marcos, and Tres Palos, among others. These temples and fortresses are situated within the region bordered by the districts of Pueblo Libre (formerly Magdalenavieja), Breña, and Cercado de Lima.

The designation "Chinese pantheon" originates from its historical role as a burial site for Chinese laborers who toiled on the nearby plantations. This monument is notable for being one of the few adobe constructions in the Lima department and has received recognition as a cultural heritage of the nation.
