The Arctic Experience McNaught Gallery, Hamilton

The Arctic Experience McNaught Gallery, Hamilton

The Arctic Experience McNaught Gallery was founded in 1983 by Marvin and Lorraine Cohen as the Arctic Experience Gallery. In 1993, it adopted its current name after partnering with Canadian art specialist Melissa McNaught. The gallery has always focused on Inuit sculpture and prints, along with Canadian landscape paintings and historical works on paper.

The gallery became known for Inuit soapstone carvings of polar bears, seals, and birds, as well as prints and paintings linked to Canadian history. In 2016, it helped transfer 132 Inuit artworks created by tuberculosis patients at the former Hamilton Mountain Sanatorium to the Art Gallery of Hamilton, ensuring their preservation in a public collection.

In 2022, the gallery closed its physical location and shifted to operating mainly online and by appointment. Although it shares stories connected to the North, it functions as a commercial fine art gallery rather than a museum. Today, it continues to connect collectors and visitors with Inuit art and Canadian works through a primarily virtual format.
