The Beatles Story, Liverpool (must see)

Located at the southern end of Royal Albert Dock, near the Wheel of Liverpool, The Beatles Story is a museum dedicated to the life, music, and legacy of the Fab Four. Opened in May 1990 by the husband-and-wife team of Mike and Bernadette Byrne, it takes visitors through the band's remarkable journey, from their humble Liverpool beginnings to international fame.

To find the museum, look for the entrance marked “The Beatles Story” at Britannia Vaults, within the historic brick warehouses. Once inside, you may want to collect an audio guide (available in 12 different languages), narrated by John Lennon's sister, Julia Baird.

Begin by exploring the band's early years. Your first stop is the recreation of the Casbah Coffee Club, a basement venue where the young Beatles performed before becoming famous. Continue through the displays illustrating Liverpool's music scene and the band's early performances in Hamburg, Germany.

Next thing, enter the Cavern Club section, recreating the character of the iconic Liverpool club - with its brick arches, small stage, and intimate atmosphere - in which The Beatles performed hundreds of times in the early 1960s.

Follow the exhibition route towards the Abbey Road Studios replica, representing the famous London recording studio. Examine the recording equipment and displays explaining how the band's music evolved through experimentation and new techniques.

As you move through the galleries, check out original memorabilia, including George Harrison's first guitar, John Lennon's famous spectacles, and Ringo Starr's drum kit. Other exhibits feature photographs, rare records, clothing, and personal belongings.

Continue through the sections dedicated to Beatlemania and the British Invasion, where photographs, audiovisual displays, and memorabilia illustrate the band's worldwide success. Further along, discover exhibits covering their final years and solo careers.

Another highlight is the White Room, inspired by John Lennon's Imagine music video. Its simple white setting contrasts with the colorful displays elsewhere in the museum.
