The Chapel Nightclub, Salisbury

The Chapel Nightclub is a nightlife venue set inside a former 19th-century Pentecostal church and Sunday school. Opened as a nightclub in 1997, it preserves much of the building’s historic character while adapting it for music, dancing, and late-night events.

Inside, the original pulpit has been reused as the main DJ booth and small performance stage. A 90-year-old pipe organ stands behind it, while wooden pews still provide seating on the ground level and balcony. Tall stained-glass windows, lit by modern lasers and sequenced lighting, add to the contrast between chapel architecture and club design.

The venue includes several spaces, such as the Disco room, Bar Botanic, and The Vestry, which incorporates part of a structure linked to a 13th-century pub. During conversion, acoustic secondary glazing was added to the large curved windows to control noise. The club also features 24 mirror balls and a light-up dance floor after a major redesign. In 2000, it won BEDA Nightclub of the Year, and it remains the area’s only nightclub.
