The Parish Church of the Guardian Angels, Santiago

The Holy Guardian Angels Church stands as a significant Catholic landmark in Providencia, Santiago de Chile. Recognized for its historical importance, it received the distinguished title of National Monument of Chile in 1990.

In 1853, Archbishop Rafael Valentín Valdivieso of Santiago de Chile acquired a portion of the Quinta Alegre estate and the surrounding farmlands with the intention of establishing a seminary in Santiago. This seminary was to be located within the bounds of what are now Providencia Avenue, Condell Street, Rancagua Street, and Seminario Street. As time passed, the need for a new church building became evident, and in 1884, Monsignor Casanova commissioned the construction of a grander church to replace the overcrowded original chapel of the seminary.

The church's architectural design, a Roman-influenced style, was masterminded by Ignacio Cremonessi. Featuring a Latin cross plan, the edifice boasts an engaging front facade, adorned with an attached portico supported by paired columns and crowned by a triangular pediment. The main entrance is flanked by pedimented niches, adding to the church's remarkable charm.
