The Saint Trinity Yoninsky Monastery Church, Kiev
The Saint Trinity Yoninsky Monastery Church, founded in 1864 by Archimandrite Iona Miroshnychenko, is a peaceful and historically rich religious site located within the city's M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden.
The monastery’s white walls and golden domes stand out against the lush greenery of the botanical garden, creating a picturesque and tranquil atmosphere.
Originally designed with ambitious plans for a massive 110-meter bell tower — intended to be the tallest in the Orthodox world — the construction was halted by the outbreak of World War I, leaving the bell tower unfinished. Despite this, the church itself retains a charming and traditional Eastern Orthodox architectural style.
Inside, visitors can admire detailed iconography, frescoes, and an ornate iconostasis that reflect the deep religious and artistic heritage of the monastery.
After a period of decline during the Soviet era, the monastery was returned to the Orthodox Church in 1993, and since then, restoration efforts have revitalized the site, preserving its spiritual and cultural significance.
