U Thant House, Yangon
U Thant House is the former residence of one of Myanmar's most respected international figures, U Thant, who served as the UN Secretary General from 1961 to 1971. In 2012, his grandson, Thant Myint-U, found the house in the old Windermere estate area in a dilapidated state. The family, with support from the Yangon Heritage Trust and other organizations, has since restored it.
The house features fascinating archival photographs of U Thant with notable figures like Nikita Khrushchev, John Lennon, and Yoko Ono. There is also video footage of U Thant giving speeches. Today, the house and its gardens host lectures and events, serving as a tribute to U Thant's legacy.
