Victory Park, Minsk
Victory Park in Minsk, often referred to as "Victoria" public garden, is the largest and one of the most cherished parks in the city. It is seamlessly integrated with Komsomolskoye Lake, which was created by damming the river Svisloch. The park's history dates back to its planned opening on June 22, 1941. This coincided with the Nazi invasion of the USSR, delaying its inauguration.
Post-World War II, the park was developed and named "Victory" to honor the Soviet triumph over Nazi Germany. Initially spanning 100 hectares, the park saw significant restorations and expansions over the years. By 1985, to mark the 40th anniversary of the victory, the "Hero City Minsk" obelisk was erected at its main entrance.
A major restoration effort began in 2005, culminating in the park's grand reopening in 2011. The area of Victory Park doubled to 200 hectares, with 40 hectares dedicated to Komsomolskoye Lake. The enhancements included a beachfront area, a health path, pedestrian zones, and a sports area for outdoor activities. The park is adorned with vibrant fountains, such as "Victory," "Eternity," and the LED fountain "Sail," which are prominent features symbolizing victory and remembrance.
A standout attraction within the park is Bird Island, a natural haven accessed by a 60-meter bridge. It hosts a diverse array of bird species, including some rare ones, making it a must-visit spot for nature enthusiasts.
