Villa Doria Pamphilj, Rome

Villa Doria Pamphilj, originally designed in the mid-17th century, now stands as the largest landscaped public park in Rome, providing a recreational haven for numerous locals. Situated in the Monteverde quarter, atop the Gianicolo (or Janiculum Hill), it rests just beyond Porta San Pancrazio, an ancient gate in the historical walls of Rome where the renowned Via Aurelia begins its course.

Initially established as a residence for the Pamphilj family, the villa passed into the possession of Prince Giovanni Andrea IV Doria in the 18th century, subsequently earning the name Villa Doria Pamphilj. Spanning an impressive 1.8 square kilometers, it was acquired by the city government from the Doria-Pamphilj family in 1971.

This remarkable estate boasts numerous trails and open spaces, making it an exceptional destination for bird-watching and jogging within the city. Frequented by locals, particularly on weekends, yet never too crowded, Villa Doria Pamphilj captivates visitors with its abundant natural beauty.
