Wevershuis (Weaver's House), Zaandam

Wevershuis (Weaver's House), Zaandam

The Weaver's House was constructed between 1722 and 1730. This distinctive double house served as a home weaving workshop for centuries, where two families lived and worked among five looms. Assendelft and Krommenie's weaving industry thrived due to the dedication of numerous home weavers, and the Weaver's House stands as a prime example of this unique craft.

With its rich history, the Weaver's House is now a captivating museum where visitors can dive into the traditional Dutch craft of sailcloth weaving. In 2011, Stadsherstel, an organization dedicated to preserving endangered buildings, saved the house from demolition and carefully reconstructed it at Zaanse Schans in 2015. Today, visitors can step back in time to explore home weaving, try their hand at the loom, and learn the intricacies of this ancient craft from home weavers dressed in traditional attire. The Weaver's House is now managed by the Zaans Museum.
