Aegidiischanze, Munster

The Aegidiischanze is a green area and former sconce on the southwestern edge of the city center. It served as a fortress of Aegidiitores and was surrounded by a moat. In the late 19th century, it was transformed into an urban green space by the Münster City Council and honorary citizen, Adolf Kleimann. In 1964, on the western edge of the hill a monument was erected in honor of the fallen soldiers from the 4th (Westphalian) Cuirassiers "von Driesen".
