Apocalypse Gallery, Nicosia
Founded in 1987 by Natasha Tofaridou, the Apocalypse Gallery is the largest and one of the most influential art spaces in Nicosia. Housed in a modern three-level building in the city center, the gallery has established itself as a vital hub for contemporary art, bridging the gap between local and international artistic expression.
The name "Apocalypse" derives from the Greek verb apokalýpto, meaning "to reveal," encapsulating the gallery’s mission to unveil not only artworks but also the full spectrum of emotions and intellectual processes that come with the creation and presentation of art-tension, anticipation, reflection, and satisfaction.
The gallery’s core objective is the promotion of contemporary art, with a keen focus on new trends, innovative ideas, and evolving styles. Its collection includes works by internationally renowned artists as well as respected Cypriot creators, primarily in the fields of painting and sculpture. Each exhibition aims to offer the public not only aesthetic enjoyment but also deeper insight and engagement with current cultural dialogues.
The space is thoughtfully structured across three levels: the basement and ground floor are flexible exhibition spaces tailored to each show’s specific needs, while the upper floor-referred to as the "third level"-houses the gallery’s DEPOT, a curated shop featuring artworks by collaborators and smaller collectible pieces signed by established artists.
Under the guidance of founder Natasha Tofaridou, the Apocalypse Gallery remains a dynamic meeting point for artists, collectors, thinkers, and the wider community. Through its commitment to quality and innovation, the gallery continues to play a key role in shaping and elevating the cultural landscape of Cyprus.
