Avenue Laurier Ouest, Montreal

Avenue Laurier Ouest, Montreal

Laurier Ouest Avenue also referred to as Avenue Laurier, is a bustling and trendy commercial street renowned for its upscale appeal. Located in Montreal, this street combines commercial and residential spaces, stretching across the boroughs of Outremont, Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, and Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie. It is a popular destination for both avid shoppers and casual observers, offering a delightful array of cafés, restaurants, and specialty stores, particularly near Park Avenue and east of Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park.

The heart of Laurier Avenue's shopping district lies between Clark Street in the east and Querbes Avenue. Here, you'll find a concentration of high-end home decor and children's clothing boutiques, alongside a variety of dining options and cozy cafes. If you're in search of an indulgent shopping experience or simply wish to explore the vibrant atmosphere, Laurier Avenue is the place to be.

Situated at the intersection of Laurier Avenue and Berri Street is Laurier Station, an important stop on the orange line of the Montreal Metro. This convenient location further adds to the accessibility and popularity of the area.

Originally, in the 1870s, Laurier Avenue went by the name Saint Louis Street within the old village of Saint-Louis du Mile-End. As the village transformed into the City of Saint Louis (1875-1909) and later Coteau Saint Louis (1846-1893), it became part of the City of Montreal through annexation in 1899. To honor the former Prime Minister of Canada, Sir Wilfrid Laurier, it was decided to rename the street Laurier Avenue.
