Bonner Kunstverein (Bonn Art Association), Bonn

The Bonn Art Association is a celebrated non-profit contemporary art space in Bonn, established in 1963 through a citizens’ initiative to bridge local and international artistic conversations. Since 1986, it has been housed in a former flower market repurposed into a spacious, flexible exhibition hall by renowned architects Ortner & Ortner Architecture. The venue spans around 800 m², adaptable with movable walls, and underwent a major renovation between 2006 and 2010, which earned acclaim from the Association of German Architects.

Over the years, the Art Association has presented more than 370 exhibitions, featuring a mix of rising artists and internationally acclaimed names such as Hanne Darboven, Marlene Dumas, and Guan Xiao. Its diverse program includes artist talks, film screenings, workshops, and curated group exhibitions.

Recent highlights include “Philosopher of Her Own Ruin” and Christoph Wiedemann’s 2025 project, “How to Inhabit a Dying City in a Lively Way.” In addition to its exhibition program, the association also maintains an art lending library with a collection of over 1,500 works available.
