Caixa Cultural, Recife

Caixa Cultural, Recife

Caixa Cultural is a cultural center set in a restored early 20th-century building that once served as a financial institution. Its architecture includes a balanced façade, tall windows, and high-ceilinged interiors. Some original elements remain visible, including a preserved vault and areas revealed during restoration. On an upper level, a glass floor shows earlier foundations uncovered on the site.

The center presents a changing program of exhibitions focused on visual arts, photography, and design. Many projects highlight Brazilian artists and themes linked to regional identity, including exhibitions that explore the culture and landscape of the Sertão. The galleries span several rooms, with layouts adapted to different works. Lighting and design vary between open and enclosed spaces, guiding how visitors move through each display.

In addition to exhibitions, Caixa Cultural hosts performances, film screenings, and educational activities. A small auditorium supports theatre, music, and discussions, while workshops and outreach programs extend its role as a learning space. Entry to exhibitions is generally free, encouraging broad public access. In the evening, the exterior is illuminated with changing LED lighting, adding a different visual aspect to the building after dark.
