Rua do Bom Jesus (Street of Good Jesus), Recife

Street of Good Jesus is a street with deep historical significance, dating back to the 17th century. It has witnessed key moments in the history of Pernambuco. During the Dutch occupation in the mid-1600s, the street became a center for the Jewish community, home to the first synagogue in the Americas, Kahal Zur Israel.

Although it also served as a slave market during this period, Street of Good Jesus has undergone significant transformations. Despite major renovations in Recife during the early 20th century, the street remained largely intact, preserving its historical character. Today, it stands as a symbol of cultural preservation and is recognized for its beauty.
