Cambridge Wine Merchants, Cambridge

Cambridge Wine Merchants, Cambridge

Founded in 1993, Cambridge Wine Merchants (CWM) was started by two friends, Hal Wilson and Brett Turner, who turned their love for wine into a business. They first teamed up at a university event at Peterhouse May Ball in Cambridge, UK, in 1990. Choosing to strike out on their own instead of working for someone else, they opened their first store on Mill Road in Cambridge.

Today, CWM is one of the biggest independent wine sellers in the UK and is still run by its founders. The company has grown a lot, with three shops that also serve as wine bars in Cambridge-located on Bridge Street, King’s Parade, and Cherry Hinton Road. CWM has also expanded its influence by setting up franchises and forming partnerships in Ampthill, Royston, and Marlow, and now offers a nationwide service that includes door-to-door delivery and wholesale.

CWM lives by the saying, "We’re only as good as the last bottle we sold." This drives their commitment to quality, choosing products with care, enthusiasm, and a unique touch. Their stock includes more than 900 wines, 400 malt whiskies, and a varied selection of local beers and cocktail supplies, many from independent, family-owned producers. This variety offers customers a chance to discover rare and exceptional products.

Cambridge Wine Merchants aims to be the leading independent wine seller in the country while enjoying the journey. Their method of directly importing goods and working closely with suppliers allows them to provide great value, making them a favorite in the UK wine market.
