Church of the Holy Mother of God, Vilnius

The Church of the Holy Mother of God is located in the Žvēryne neighborhood of Vilnius, Lithuania, near the Žvēryne bridge. It was constructed in 1903 under the initiative of the Vilnius Saint Spirit Brotherhood, a group of Orthodox believers. The plot of land for the church was donated by Vasilijus Martinson, and the construction was financed by donations from other believers. The church was consecrated on June 1 of the same year.

At the time of the church's construction, there was already a parish school located next to the temple. Additionally, a house for a children's shelter and a library with a large reading room were established nearby. During World War I, a shelter was opened for children from poor families, and it provided a safe haven for children of other Christian denominations in addition to Orthodox children.

Throughout its history, the Church of the Holy Mother of God has been open all the time, with the mass never being interrupted. In 1946, there were reportedly 400 believers in the parish, and in 1948, the Soviets officially registered the church. In 1956, capital repairs were carried out at the expense of the Moscow Patriarchate.

Today, the church continues to serve the local community. There is a Sunday school for both children and adults, as well as a youth music center located adjacent to the church.
