Cork Bus Station, Cork

Cork Bus Station is a major Bus Éireann transport hub, serving regional and long-distance routes across the county and to other parts of Ireland. It is an important transfer point for visitors using public transport, while some commuter services operate from nearby on-street stops because of limited capacity within the terminal.

The present station was built around 1960 and designed by architect Mary Fitzgibbon of Boyd Barrett Architects. Its modernist design introduced colourful tiles and lighter materials that contrasted with the heavier stone buildings along the riverside. The station incorporates a 19th-century stone wall and retains original details such as metal-framed windows, decorative tiles and a mosaic-covered column.

The station has undergone several upgrades to improve passenger facilities and accessibility. Recent work has included modern passenger information systems, while further improvements have focused on automatic doors, safer flooring, accessible toilets and dedicated lost-luggage space. These changes adapt the 1960s building to present-day transport needs while retaining many of its original architectural features.
