Demer (street), Eindhoven

The Demer is the main shopping street of the core shopping area in the center of Eindhoven . The street, after the Kalverstraat in Amsterdam , is the small state in Maastricht and the long Elisabethstraat in Utrecht on the fourth place of streets with the highest rents in the Netherlands. A square meter costs at the Demer between € 1000 and € 1200 per year. During a ribbon bombardment on December 6, 1942 , the entire Demer was destroyed. All architecture in this street is therefore logical from the 1950s . In addition, the road was greatly expanded during reconstruction. Nevertheless, the street is a beautiful mix of properties, which initially do not indicate the relative youth of the buildings. 1580 the Demer was called the Volderseinde and the Volderstraat and contained a small bridge that stretched over the river above. This street was the first street in Eindhoven after the entrance via the Woenselse gate, and walked out on the Straitweg Road (later called the Rechtestraat).
