Dushanbe Flagpole, Dushanbe

Dushanbe Flagpole, Dushanbe

The Dushanbe Flagpole is a tall steel structure completed in 2011. It rises 165 metres (541 feet) into the air. When it was finished, it was the tallest flagpole in the world. It flies the national flag of Tajikistan, which is very large, measuring 30 by 60 metres and weighing about 700 kilograms. The flagpole stands in a landscaped park area next to the Palace of Nations.

The pole is built from steel tubes, each section measuring 12 metres. These parts were made in Dubai and then transported to Tajikistan. Construction began on 24 November 2010, which is celebrated as National Flag Day. The flag was raised for the first full test on 24 May 2011. The project was designed and built by Trident Support.

Today, the Dushanbe Flagpole is no longer the tallest in the world, but it is still one of the highest. As of 2025, it ranks fifth, with taller flagpoles now found in Cairo, Baku, Saint Petersburg, and Jeddah. Despite this, the flagpole remains a strong national symbol and a clear landmark in the city’s central area.
