Estonian Museum of Applied Art & Design, Tallinn

The Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design, located in Tallinn, was established in 1971 and officially inaugurated in 1980 as an integral part of the Estonian National Art Museum. It gained its independence in 2004. The museum is housed in a historic three-story building that originally served as a granary, constructed between 1683 and 1695. Unfortunately, the identity of the main architect is unknown. The building takes the form of a slightly irregular rectangle.

In 1823-1823, the granary underwent renovations under the guidance of architect J.D. Bantelmann. Following a restoration project in 1970 led by architect Aala Buldas, the building was transformed into a suitable space for an applied art museum. The museum's collections showcase the creative works of Estonian jewelry makers, textile artists, metalworkers, glassmakers, and ceramic designers, spanning from the early 20th century to the present day. This collection comprises around 18,000 valuable items, making it one of the most extensive and significant collections of Estonian professional applied art and design. Additionally, the museum houses a collection of photographs, negatives, slides, a specialized library, and an archive.

Visitors can explore the museum's permanent exhibition on the history of Estonian applied art. More recent artistic concepts are featured in exhibitions hosted on the ground floor and in the gallery. The museum offers guided tours and educational programs, along with event coordination and workshops for visitors to enjoy.
