FC Porto Museum, Porto
The FC Porto Museum is a private institution dedicated to preserving, sharing, and showcasing the heritage of the Portuguese sports club FC Porto. Established to uphold the club's legacy since its foundation in 1893, the museum brings together a rich collection of objects and documents, not only from FC Porto's archives but also from other sources. The museum's mission extends beyond mere preservation; it aims to document, investigate, and interpret the club’s history for scientific and educational purposes, reflecting FC Porto's role as an ambassador of the city and Portugal on the global stage.
Inaugurated on September 28, 2013, on the club's 120th anniversary and opened to the public on October 26, the museum is situated under the east stand of the Dragon Stadium (Estádio do Dragão) in Porto, occupying nearly 8,000 square meters. Conceived and constructed by Sibina Partners from Barcelona and MUSE from London, the museum features 27 thematic areas enriched with interactive and technological components, which chronicle the club’s historical milestones, key matches, celebrated managers, and legendary players. While football is the main focus, the museum also showcases FC Porto's achievements in handball, basketball, and roller hockey, featuring a vast collection of domestic trophies and seven international awards.
The museum’s collection spans the entire history of FC Porto from 1893 to the present. It includes around 2,000 cataloged items such as trophies, documents, medals, clothing, and artwork. In addition, about 5,000 objects are still undergoing identification and reintegration. The museum also houses a Documentation Center with a significant number of documents awaiting cataloging, estimated to be three times the number currently registered.
Beyond its exhibits, the museum offers a range of facilities including an auditorium, a club store, a coffeehouse, and spaces for educational activities and temporary exhibitions. At the entrance, visitors are greeted by the "Valquíria Dragão" (Dragon Valkyrie), a unique artwork by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos that incorporates textiles and trophies from the club.
