Fox Tower, Portland
Completed in 2000, Fox Tower is a 27-storey mixed-use building containing offices, shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, and public facilities. Designed by TVA Architects, formerly Thompson Vaivoda & Associates, the tower rises 372 feet (113 metres) above ground, with five additional underground parking levels. Its modern design is defined by a curved glass curtain wall and a slender profile.
The building’s shape was carefully planned to reduce shadows on nearby Pioneer Courthouse Square, an important public gathering space. The curved façade allows more daylight to reach the square while also creating changing reflections across the glass surface. The lower floors contain retail and dining spaces, along with the Regal Fox Tower cinema, a 10-screen theatre that remains one of the building’s main attractions.
Fox Tower also reflects the region’s focus on sustainable construction and urban development. It received LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures, and environmentally responsible management. Its central position places visitors close to museums, theatres, shopping areas, public transport, and several public spaces.
