Galerija Fortuna (antique shop), Ljubljana

Galerija Fortuna is an antique shop set within the quieter historic quarter below Castle Hill, where narrow passages, cobblestones, and Baroque façades preserve the character of the old town. The surrounding area developed from the medieval settlement, and several nearby buildings retain older rooflines and architectural details. The 17th-century Church of St. Florian, later altered by architect Jože Plečnik, stands a short walk away.

The shop buys and sells carefully selected antiques, with a particular interest in objects from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its displays often include Art Nouveau pieces, reflecting the artistic influence of Vienna and the architectural renewal that followed the 1895 earthquake. Visitors may also find antique furniture, chandeliers and other lighting, silverware, sculptures, paintings, carpets, and decorative household objects. The selection changes as pieces are acquired from private owners and estates.

Items are arranged closely throughout the gallery, allowing visitors to examine different materials, techniques, and design periods. Prices are generally determined by an object’s age, condition, rarity, and artistic value. Collectors may search for a specific piece, while casual visitors can browse regional artworks, well-preserved furnishings, and smaller objects connected with Central European domestic life and craftsmanship.
