Ghalib Museum & Library, Delhi

Ghalib museum and library is located just opposite the famous Dargah of Nizamuddin Auliya in New Delhi. This museum was established in 1969. Dr. Zakir Hussain, the then President of India inaugurated the museum to commemorate the noble poet of the Mughal court –Mirza Ghalib. In the top floor of the museum, you can find photographs and paintings of famous poets like Zaug, a great poet in the court of Bahadur Shah, Mohammed Hussain Azad and Abdur Rehman Chugtai. You can also find a statue of Ghalib and portraits depicting various phases of his life. The museum also has on display rare manuscripts of Ain-i-Akbari written by Abul Fazl and manuscripts of Daro Shikoh, the elder son of Shah Jahan.

Do not miss the ornamental specimens of calligraphy, coin collection, 18th century stamps and Kufic script on your tour here. You can find clothes used by Ghalib, his walking stick and his chessboard made of cloth and wooden pieces. Paintings and carvings of modern artists describing the verses of Ghalib are also showcased at the museum. The library contains an extensive collection of Ghalib’s writings and a variety of materials that help those who wish to research on the great poet. Ghalib museum and library organizes lectures and talks on a regular basis. The museum is open from Monday to Saturday.
