Grays Antique Market, London
Grays Antique Market boasts one of the world's largest and most diverse assemblages of fine antiques, jewelry, and collectibles. Positioned just moments away from Bond Street, it serves as the focal point of London's antique trade and is home to around 200 exceptional dealers whose distinctive characters and remarkable inventory, spanning a wide spectrum, contribute to the unique and unforgettable shopping experience offered here. While their specialties encompass everything from Bakelite items to Mughal art, the majority focus primarily on jewelry, ranging from contemporary to antique pieces. It's entirely possible to find great deals, and authenticity is assured.
The market is divided into two distinct sections: Grays and The Mews. Each section presents an array of items that befits an international fair, yet it retains a distinct touch of London's historical charm. The stands are situated within a splendid 19th-century terracotta building originally designed by the renowned Edwardian architect Reginald Bloomsfield. Interestingly, this building was originally commissioned by John Bolding and Son, manufacturers of water closets, who were competitors to Thomas Crapper in the 19th century for toilet supremacy. In keeping with the spirit of the era, they took great pride in creating a headquarters that was not only functionally efficient but also a work of architectural beauty. Bennie Gray, the founder of Grays, carried forward this tradition as he embarked on the restoration of the once-neglected splendors of the former water closet showroom.
