Ismaili Center, Dushanbe
The Ismaili Centre is a religious and cultural building used by the Ismaili Muslim community. It opened in 2009 and was developed with support from the Aga Khan Development Network. The centre is used for prayer, education, and community gatherings. While it mainly serves Ismailis, it also reflects wider ideas of learning, cooperation, and respect between cultures.
The design follows architectural traditions from Central Asia and the Persian cultural area. It is carefully planned, with open courtyards, balanced proportions, and clear layouts. Inside, carved wooden columns, detailed ceilings, and patterned stonework show the work of local craftsmen, while natural light helps create calm interior spaces.
Inside are prayer halls, meeting rooms, and spaces used for lectures and cultural events. The decoration is simple, with geometric patterns and soft colors that follow Islamic art and local building traditions. Visitors are welcome outside prayer times, with modest dress and quiet behavior expected. Guided visits, when available, explain how the centre is used and what its design represents.
