Laperouse began its life in 1766 as a wine merchant, but it didn’t take long for it to evolve into something far more layered—and far more intriguing. Over the centuries, it has balanced two reputations that rarely sit comfortably together: a temple of refined French gastronomy and a discreet playground for Parisian high society. At its peak, the kitchen reached notable acclaim under Auguste Escoffier, earning three Michelin stars in 1951, while its rooms hosted some of France’s most celebrated literary figures, including Colette, Marcel Proust, Gustave Flaubert, and Charles Baudelaire.

The restaurant’s identity, however, has always extended beyond its menu. Its series of intimate private salons—restored with velvet divans, chandeliers, Venetian mirrors, and richly textured walls—recreate the atmosphere of 18th-century Paris while preserving the sense of secrecy that made them famous.
