Leitaria A Camponeza Restaurant is one of Lisbon’s historic dining spots, dating back to 1907. Originally opened as a dairy shop, it gradually evolved into a restaurant while preserving much of its early 20th-century character. Its name, which can be translated as “The Countrywoman Dairy,” still hints at its rural and milk-shop origins.
The restaurant is especially notable for its Art Nouveau interior. Blue and white tiles decorate the walls with pastoral scenes, recalling the countryside world suggested by its name. Inside, visitors can also notice embossed ceiling details and decorative beams typical of the period, giving the space a refined yet warmly traditional atmosphere.
Today, Leitaria A Camponeza is known for traditional Portuguese cuisine, with dishes such as seafood skewers and octopus among its specialties. It also serves queijadas de Sintra, a classic Portuguese pastry associated with the town of Sintra.
